A Platteville man was able to drive his truck across a set of train tracks Sunday morning near Cassville – however, his boat didn’t make it. The Grant County Sheriff’s Office says that 23-year-old Mitchell Niehaus was pulling a trailer carrying a 14-foot boat. As he was driving over a set of tracks by Schleicher’s Landing, a train crashed into the boat and trailer. Authorities say the boat was ejected from the trailer and carried about 150 feet down the tracks. The sheriff’s report also said a piece of trailer collided with a parked, unattended truck parked nearby. Niehaus and his passenger – 24-year-old Luke Withrow of Platteville – did not report any injuries. The conductor and engineer of the BNSF locomotive were unharmed as well. The crash does remain under investigation.
