Southwest Health Center in Platteville

has purchased one of the city’s main

health care clinics. Hospital officials

say they’ve agreed to buy the Dean Clinic

in Platteville, effective July 1st.

The doctors and advanced practice

providers at Dean Clinic-Platteville will

all be offered contracts to become

Southwest Health Center employees.

In addition, all patients currently using

Dean Clinic-Platteville will be able to

continue seeing their providers of

choice, after the transition.

Davis Duehr Dean-Platteville, Dean

Speciality Services, and Cardin’s Pharmacy

will remain unchanged and will continue

all operations as usual.

The acquisition by Southwest Health

Center is a growing trend in the health

care industry. Last year, the Grant

Regional Health Center purchased

the Dean Clinic in Lancaster.

According to the American Hospital

Association, the number of doctors

directly employed by hospitals increased

45% from 2000 to 2010. In addition,

about half of all physicians in the U-S

are now employed by hospitals.
