Over a week has passed and

local residents are still wondering

why sirens in the City of Platteville

gave no advanced warning about

tornadoes that hit the town last

Monday night (6/16). Both Platteville

Police Chief Doug McKinley and

Platteville Fire Chief Ryan Simmons

say trained weather spotters were

out, hours before the tornado hit.


The National Weather Service

issued a Tornado Watch for the

area that day, but no Tornado

Warning was issued to trigger

the sirens. A Tornado Watch says

while no tornadoes have been

spotted in the area, conditions

are right for the formation of
