Prairie du Chien Burglary Suspect Arrested

Authorities in Prairie du Chien say they’ve arrested a man suspected of stealing hundreds of items from an area storage facility. Police report that 43-year-old Justin Schmittler was arrested Saturday evening after officers executed a pair of search warrants. Investigators say they had received several reports of storage lockers at Z Brother’s Storage being entered and items stolen. Through the use of social media “Buy, Sell & Trade” pages, officers were able to confirm countless items of stolen property – located at Schmittler’s home and a storage locker he owned. Schmittler is facing 9 counts of burglary, possession of burglar’s tools, and obstruction. Authorities say that hundreds of items – suspected to be stolen property – were documented during their searches. However, because the items weren’t reported as stolen to the proper authorities, some of those items were left at the locations of the search warrants.
