A man from Platteville has been treated

for a stab wound after he was attacked by

five men while he walked along a road in

the Town of Belmont Monday night.

Lafayette County authorities say the

20-year-old man was walking along

West Mound Road near the “M” just

after 8:30 pm. That’s when five persons

approached him and demanded his

wallet. The man refused and that’s

when a fight ensued. The man fought

with the suspects and he reportedly

injured three of them. After the fight,

the attackers fled the scene in a black,

extended cab Ford F-150 pick-up.

The victim told authorities the

men were wearing masks at the

time of the incident. The man was taken

to Southwest Health Center in Platteville

for treatment of a non-life threatending

stab wound. He was treated and released.

Helping Lafayette County authorities at

the scene were the Platteville Police,

and Iowa County authorities. The incident

remains under investigation.

Lafayette County authorities do not

identify the victim in the news release

issued to the media.
