Platteville Facility Study Focus

After getting input from the community, the Platteville School District is narrowing its focus for a possible referendum and facility update.

Last month the school board reviewed data from a survey that gave about half a dozen building options – including no changes.

The most support came for an option that would address things like safety and educational space in all of the district’s buildings, plus move 4th grade to Westview.

That project is estimated at $18.8 million. If the district goes forward with a referendum, Platteville Superintendent Connie Valenza says it could get a 20-year bond worth about $16.6 million – without raising the tax levy for debt services.

The district will now focus its efforts to get more clarity on that facility project option.

The Platteville school board has also approved spending up to $7,000 to develop a formal presentation on the plan – which would include more details on figures, plus preliminary drawings and designs. If a referendum is approved by voters, it would not take effect until after the 2015 – 2016 school year.
