The Aging and Disability Resource Center of Grant County (ADRC) reminds people impacted by recent flooding to be cautious about whom they turn to for clean-up assistance and repairs.  Natural disasters can bring out the worst in scam artists and unscrupulous contractors.  For more information about how to protect yourself during these post-flood situations, contact the ADRC by calling 608-723-6113 or 800-514-0066.

The Dubuque Regional Humane Society's Annual Fall Gala, one of the shelter's main events to help the animals, is quickly approaching.  Diamonds are "Fur"ever is a James Bond-themed event coming Thursday, September 9th to the Diamond Jo Casino.  Cash bar and the silent auction begins at 6:00pm, followed by a delectable sit-down dinner with a live auction capping off the evening's festivities.  Tickets are $75.00 per person.  Seating is limiting and reservations are required in advance.  For more information, call Jane at 563-584-1925.

Platteville Dairy Days Talent Showcase 2010 will be held on Saturday, September 11th on the Main Stage at Legion Park beginning at 2:00pm.  Interested students in grades 1-12 should register by September 5th.  All performers will receive $10 in Platteville Chamber Bucks.  Information and registration forms are available at all Platteville schools and the Platteville Parks & Rec Office at City Hall--348-9741 Ext. 242.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 4

The Cassville Car Cruise will begin the cruise at Menard's in Platteville at 1:00pm and beginning at 2:00pm the cars will cruise from Platteville, through Lancaster, Potosi, arriving at Cassville's Riverside Park at about 4:00pm.  You are invited to come to Cassville and enjoy the nostalgia and good time of these waxed and polished vintage and old-time classics.  Extended Car Ferry service will be available for our friends across the pond with the last ferry leaving Cassville at 11:00pm.  Come to the river and enjoy an evening of music, food and fun.

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 6

Everyone is invited to come to Dickeyville and enjoy Holy Ghost Parish's Chicken & Ham Dinner in the school gym, serving from 11:00am to 3:00pm.  There will also be a Garage Sale--with many back-to-school items--in the church basement, and a raffle drawing will be at 6:00pm.

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 9

The American Red Cross will hold a Blood Drive in Belmont from noon to 5:30pm at the Grade School Gym.  September is National Preparedness Month and the American Red Cross encourages all people to prepare for emergencies and asks all eligible individuals to donate blood.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 10

The Grant Regional Health Center Auxiliary will hold their 23rd Annual Cookie Walk and Used Book Sale, beginning at 7:00am.  It will be held in the Main Lobby by Registration.  Proceeds will be put toward the Auxiliary's annual gift to the hospital.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 11

The Rewey Fire Department will hold a Steak and Chicken Breast Supper, serving from 5:00 to 8:00pm.  Proceeds from this event will to toward the purchase of new fire equipment.

There will be a "Rally for Rilee" Benefit, infant daughter of Les and Stacey Schmidt, at the Youth & Ag Building in Lancaster.  Rilee has been diagnosed with a rare blood vessel disorder that causes bleeding in the stomach and intestines.  A Fun Run at the Youth & Ag and a Walk at the Lancaster High School Track will start at 9:00am.  A silent auction will be from 10:00 to 2:00pm. live auction at noon and lunch from 11:00-2:00pm.  Cash donations may be mailed to First National Bank, 305 S. SATURDAY & SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 11 & 12

The Tri-State Saddle Club will be hosting the 4th Annual Benefit Open Horse Show, beginning at 1:00pm on Saturday and at 11:00am on Sunday.  The location is the Dubuque County Fairgrounds Equine Park area.  All proceeds will go toward the Breast Cancer Tri-State Survivors Fund and the Dubuque Food Pantry.  Prizes will be drawn at the end of each show.  First prize each day is a new Tex Tan Saddle!  For more information, call Kevin at 563-590-0023.
