The Grant County Highway Department

just spent $600,000 on new highway

equipment. County Highway Commissioner

Dave Lambert says the highway commission

has accepted the low bids from Fabco of

Madison for a new road grader, and from

Truck Country of Shullsburg for two new,

tandem axle dump trucks. The equipment

was included in the highway department

budget for this year.

The grader cost just over $200,000.

The county received a $60,000 trade-in

on a 1989 model unit. The new grader

should be delivered sometime this Summer.

The Grant County Highway Department

will continue to have five graders in

The two trucks cost just under $200,000

each…so nearly $400,000 combined.

The Western Star model will be brought

to Lancaster in September, then taken to

Burke Truck and Equipment in Madison

to have snow plows attached to them.

That work should be done in October or

November, at which point they’ll be

put into service. Lambert says two other

trucks will then be taken out of service

and put into the reserve fleet.
