A man from Elmhurst, Illinois is dead
after a one-vehicle crash yesterday
(Monday) afternoon near Stockton in
Jo Davies County.
Jo Davies County authorities say
18-year-old Noe Gomez was pronounced
dead at the accident scene on Highway-20
near South Curtiss Road. Gomez was
traveling east in a line of vehicles, and
tried to pass several vehicles that were
in front of him. But as he started to
pass, another driver also tried to pass
the vehicles. Gomez then went onto the
shoulder of the road to avoid a collision.
But he then lost control of his vehicle
as it went off the road. It then overturned
several times before hitting a tree.
Two passengers in Gomez’ vehicle were
taken to the hospital in Freeport for
treatment of their injuries. One is from
Addison, Illinois while the other is from
Melrose Park, Illinois. None of the other
vehicles was damaged and no one else
was injured in the crash, which is
still under investigation.
Helping at the scene were the Illinois
State Police and Police from Stockton,
along with the ambulance from Stockton
and from Warren, the Stockton Fire
Department, the Illinois Department
of Transportation and the Lifeline
