A man from rural Platteville is dead after
the buggy he was operating was hit from behind
by a truck, late Wednesday afternoon.
The accident happened in the Town of
Elk Grove, south of Belmont. Lafayette County
authorities say 20-year-old Levi Kinsinger died
this morning (Thursday morning) at a hospital
in Madison, from the injuries he sustained in
the crash. He was initially taken to
Southwest Health Center in Platteville by the
Belmont Ambulance, but was later transferred
to the hospital in Madison. Lafayette County
authorities say Kinsinger was operating
his horse and buggy and was going west on
Highway-81. That’s when a Chevy truck being
driven 29-year-old Eugene Jenson of Darlington
came up from behind and hit the buggy.
Kinsinger was thrown from the buggy.
Jenson is uninjured. Both the truck and the
buggy have extensive damage. The horse that
was pulling the buggy was severely injured, and
had to be euthanized by a veterinarian.
Lafayette County authorities say the lights on the
buggy were operating at the time of the crash.
The investigation into the incident continues,
and the matter will be referred to the Lafayette
County District Attorney’s Office for review and
possible charging decisions.
