The unemployment rate increased
in the final month of 2013 in the five-county
region of southwest Wisconsin. According
to the Wisconsin Department of Workforce
Development, the jobless rate increased
last month in Grant, Iowa, Lafayette and
Crawford Counties. In Richland County
it stayed the same from November to
December, at 4.9%
In Grant County, the jobless rate increased
from 4.5% in November, to 4.8% in December.
In December of 2012 it was at 5%.
Other unemployment rates last month in
the region include Lafayette County at
4.5%, Iowa county at 5.1%, and Crawford
County at 6.7%.
The statewide jobless rate last month was
5.8%, 6.5% for the nation. By comparison,
Iowa’s jobless rate dropped in December
to 4.2%. That’s the lowest it’s been since
