Unemployment rates went down in
southwest Wisconsin last month, but
still remain higher than or at the same level
as they were a year ago.
The Wisconsin Department of Workforce
Development says the jobless rate in
Grant County dropped from 7.5% in
February to 6.9% in March. A year ago
the unemployment rate in Grant County
The unemployment rate remains higher
than last year in Iowa County. In March,
it was 8.9%, while last March it was 8.2%.
But it was down from 9.2% in February.
Other local jobless rates in the region
include Lafayette County at 6.7%, down
from 7.5% in February…Richland County
at 7%, down from 7.8% in February…and
Crawford at 9.4%, which is down from
10.4% in February. But that’s higher than
the 9% unemployment rate in March 2012.
The information is based on monthly
claims for unemployment insurance,
plus a survey of almost 1,500 households.
Thirty-one cities in Wisconsin reported
lower jobless rates in March.
The statewide jobless rate for March
was 7.6%, down from 8.2% in February.
The national jobless rate was also 7.6%
