Southwest Wisconsin’s unemployment
picture has improved, as jobless rates
in the five-county region have dropped
below 6% in all but one county.
According to the Wisconsin Department
of Workforce Development, the jobless
rate dropped to 5.4% in Grant County
last month, down from 6.1% in July.
Last August, the unemployment rate in
the county was at 6.2%.
Iowa County has the lowest jobless rate
in the region. Last month it stood at
4.8%, down from 5.3% in July.
Other unemployment rates last month
include Lafayette County at 5.1%, down
from 5.6% in July, and Richland County
also at 5.1%, also down from 5.6% in
July. Crawford County is the only
county in the region with a jobless
rate above 6%, at 6.2% for the month
of August. The unemployment rate
in July in Crawford County was 6.6%,
and was at 7% in August of 2012.
The state unemployment rate last
month was 6.2%, 7.3% for the nation.
