The unemployment rate

was down last month in Grant,

Iowa, Lafayette, Crawford

and Richland Counties.

According to the unemployment

statistics released by the

Wisconsin Department of

Workforce Development,

three of those counties were

in the 15 lowest jobless rates

in the state for the month.

Lafayette County had the

eighth lowest jobless rate

at 4.3%, Grant County the

ninth lowest at 4.4%, and

Iowa County the 13th lowest

at 4.7%. All three of those

In Richland County,  the

jobless rate stood at 5%

last month, down from

6.1% in April. Crawford

County continues to have

the areas highest unemployment

numbers at 6.4%, down from

7.5% in April. State Workforce

officials say the jobless rate

decreased in May in all but

three of the states 72-counties.

The statewide jobless rate

dropped to 5.5% for May,

its’ lowest point since

October 2008. Last month

the U-S jobless rate was 6.1%.
