Authorities in Jo Daviess County

are looking for a man who pretended

he was a police officer and stopped

a motorist early Sunday in rural


Authorities say a local resident

was driving west on Highway-20

around 4:30 am when a vehicle

pulled up behind him with

flashing blue and red lights,

wanting him to stop.

The man pretending to be a

police officer approached

the vehicle, but the motorist

asked for the man to provide

an identification that he was

a police officer. When no

I-D was produced, the

motorist drove away.

He then contacted police

in Galena.


Authorities say the suspect

vehicle is described as a black

Buick Century with Iowa

license plates. It has red

and blue lights in the grill

and in the passenger

side visor. The suspect

is described as being a

black male who was

wearing a black shirt

and blue jeans. He also

was carrying a sidearm

with a holster.
