The Grant County Sheriff’s Department is
trying to find one of the motorists who was
involved in a three-vehicle crash during Sunday’s
blizzard. It happened on Highway-80 near
Louisburg Road in southern Grant County
in the Town of Hazel Green. A vehicle
being driven by 20-year-old Brian Monahan
of Platteville hit a vehicle from behind.
It was being driven by 41-year-old
Laurie Splinter of rural Hazel Green.
There was blowing snow and whiteout
conditions at the time of the crash, and
no one was hurt. But Grant County
Sheriff Nate Dreckman says a third
vehicle came up from behind and hit
Monahan’s vehicle. As a result, Monahan
was pinned between his vehicle and
Splinter’s. He was looking to see if there
was any damage to the vehicles.
Sheriff Dreckman says the third motorist
drove away from the scene and was yelling
and swearing at Monahan, while he was
pinned between the two vehicles.
Monahan was eventually freed and
taken to Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, by
the Hazel Green E M S. That’s where he
was treated for severe leg injuries.
The crash happened on Sunday evening.
Witnesses say the third vehicle was a
dark colored S U V. If you have information
about the third vehicle, call the Grant County
Sheriff’s Department at 723-2157. You can
