A former Chancellor at the UW-Platteville

has passed away. A university spokesman

says William Chmurny died October 16th

at his home in San Marcos, California.

He was 72. A private burial service for

Chmurny was held in San Marcos on

Wednesday (10/23).

Chmurny served as Chancellor at

UW-Platteville from 1982 to 1993.

University officials say one of his

focuses as chancellor was recruiting

and retaining women students on

campus. He also worked to improve

the UW-Platteville Pioneer Farm, and

helped to bring the Chicago Bears Summer

Training Camp to the school.

Chmurny was a native of Oak Park, Illinois.

His family requests that memorials may

be made to any universities or charities

in which Chmurny was affiliated, including

the UW-Platteville Foundation.
