accused of stealing money from the Darlington

Volunteer Fire Department, has reached a

plea deal with prosecutors.

Court records show a plea and sentencing

hearing is scheduled for 31-year-old

Jon Grossen on July 10th in Lafayette

County Court. He remains free on a $50,000

signature bond.

Grossen is facing two felony charges of

theft from a business setting.

Police say while Grossen served as treasurer

of the fire department, he made 66 unapproved

withdrawals from donation accounts.

He’s also accused of taking a check for nearly

$7,500 from the Darlington Fire Commission.

Police say Grossen stole the money between

June 2009 and March of last year, totaling

close to $55,000.

The investigation into Grossen’s thefts,

started when he wasn’t re-elected as treasurer.

That’s when other firefighters started

noticing suspicious withdrawals.
