A Platteville man is dead after a 2-vehicle crash Monday evening between Belmont and Mineral Point. The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office says emergency crews were called shortly after 4p to an area of Highway 151 in the Town of Kendall – just south of the Iowa County line. According to a sheriff’s report, 60-year-old Howard Mutert of Platteville pulled from a driveway and into the path of a vehicle being driven by 22-year-old Grace Pawlowski of Waukesha. Pawlowski was unable to avoid a collision and struck Mutert’s van. The van went into the median before coming to rest. Pawlowski’s vehicle came to rest in the paved cross-over section of the highway. Authorities say Mutert was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in his van – 37-year-old William Simba, also of Platteville – was taken to Upland Hills Health in Dodgeville with serious injuries. Pawlowski was taken to Southwest Health in Platteville with minor injuries. She was later released. Officials say the crash remains under investigation.
