"The Outdoors" - Nature Program for KidsThe Iowa DNR and the Friends of the Mines of Spain are sponsoring a nature program at the Mines of Spain Recreation Area on June 18th from 12:30-2:30pm. The free event is for ages 2 - 4 and will include crafts, hikes and other activites lead by a park naturalist. The program helps children of a young age to experience the wonder of nature.

Water Carnival at Sutton PoolThe Leisure Services Department is sponsoring a free Water Carnival at Sutton Pool on June 19th beginning at 6:30pm. A variety of activities are planned for ages 5 to 14. These events will utilize the entire pool and therefore interrupt public recreation swimming for the evening at Sutton Pool. Flora Pool will remain open for public swimming.

The Dubuque Museum of Art: A FOND FAREWELL FOR 25 FOOT TALL ‘GOD BLESS AMERICA’The Dubuque Museum of Art announces that the iconic sculpture God Bless America will be leaving Dubuque on June 25th. At its departure the sculpture will have completed a two and a half year stay at the Museum. The Museum is planning special activities to send the artwork off with flare. On Saturday, June 22, from 1pm to 3pm, the Museum will offer a Family Day with free Museum admission, free family art activities, a “come dressed like the American Gothic couple” costume contest and refreshments. On Sunday, June 23rd, at 1:30pm, the Museum will feature a lecture on Grant Wood by Dr. Randy Lengeling. Dr. Lengeling is a Grant Wood collector and scholar and this updated presentation will give an in-depth look at Wood’s life and work. The lecture is free to the public.
The Museum also asks the public to participate in creating a virtual scrapbook. Anyone with pictures of their family or friends in front of the sculpture is asked to post their images to the Museum’s facebook wall. Livingston Park Preservation Fun Run/Walk FundraiserThe Livingston Park Preservation Fun Run/Walk Fundraiser will be held on June 22nd at 9am, with registration between 8-8:45am. The registration cost for adults and teens (run/walk) is $10 and for children 12 and younger (walk) is $5. All proceeds go towards the Bell Park Project. The event start and finish will be at Livingston/Clifton fire station. There is a Mardi Gras theme and participants are encouraged to dress up.

Mines of Spain Canoe ProgramThe Iowa DNR and the Friends of the Mines of Spain are sponsoring a free canoe program for all ages on Catfish Creek in the Mines of Spain Recreation Area on June 22 starting at 1pm. Meet at the canoe launch on Catfish Creek along the main park road. Canoes, life jackets (Personal Flotation Device) and paddles will be provided on a first come, first served basis. Life jackets (PFD's) are limited and all participants must be wearing one. You are encouraged to bring your own. The program should last about 2 hours and participants are encouraged to stay after to explore the many trails and other available activities in the area.

Benefit Concert for Mines of Spain Land ExpansionThe Medicine Band presents: Blackhawk, a rock opera concert and fundraiser for Land Expansion at the Mines of Spain. Saturday, June 22nd @ 7pm
The Medicine Band is a six piece musical group performing their original rock opera "It Was a Beautiful Country" stories of Native America.This rock opera features the story of legendary Sauk and Fox warrior, Black Hawk with special guest Denny Garcia. Bring your lawn chairs for this outdoor concert at the EB Lyons Interpretive Center 8991 Bellevue Heights. In case of inclement weather, we will move the concert inside the EB Lyons Center. A free will offering will be taken for fundraising for the 52 acre expansion at the Mines of Spain

Potosi Street DanceThe Potosi-Tennyson Area Chamber of Commerce and the Tennyson-Potosi Bank are sponsoring the Potosi Street Dance on June 22nd from 7 - 11pm in the downtown area. The Tour of the GardensThe Dubuque County Master Gardeners will be showcasing the region’s best gardens during the Tour of Gardens on June 23rd from 9am - 4pm. This annual event allows for a "behind the scenes" look at how people have transformed their yards into beautiful landscapes as well as providing tips and tricks as to how to create your own landscape masterpiece.
