A retired state probation officer from

Grant County is facing 67 criminal

counts of stealing money from convicted

criminals, as she served as their probation

officer. Reports say 56-year-old

Sherry Buswell of Rewey is accused of

taking a total of just over $4,000 from

21 different people. Buswell is facing

charges of theft and misconduct, and

21 of the 67 counts are felonies.

Officials say a co-worker started

to find inconsistencies when reviewing

Buswell’s case work. Later, some of the

persons on probation started to question

the supervision fees that they owed.

Buswell was put on administrative

leave when the inconsistencies were

first found. She then retired in January

after working over 15-years at the State

Probation and Parole Office in Lancaster.

Court records show she’s scheduled to

appear in Grant County Court on

Monday (7/29) at 1:00 pm before

Grant County Judge Craig Day.

Court records also show that Richland

County District Attorney Jennifer Harper

has been assigned as a special prosecutor

to handle the case for the state.
