Authorities continue search for fisherman’s body
Authorities continue to search for the body of a fisherman who is presumed drowned after falling into the Mississippi River near Lock and Dam No. 9 Saturday near Harpers Ferry, Iowa, and Lynxville.
Roger S. Goodell, 64, of Ferryville, was fishing in the river with a friend around 12:40 p.m. Saturday when their boat floated into a restricted area and struck the wall of the dam, according to the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department.
Goodell attempted to push the boat away from the wall when he fell overboard and never resurfaced.
Members from several volunteer fire departments, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and Med Link Air conducted a search for Goodell Saturday afternoon.
An Army Corps of Engineers dive team joined in the search Sunday morning.
The body had not been found as of Sunday afternoon.
